The Past Six Weeks

Eliana turns 6 weeks old on Monday. Life has been so crazy while trying to adjust to the baby that I haven't had the time I hoped for to record all of Ellie's developments. Here is a basic rundown of what has happened in her short time of life.
  • Umbilical cord stump ("Ellie button") fell off at 8 day old.
  • Her favorite trick while changing her is to wet as soon as the old diaper is taken away and before the new one is put on her. She stopped that around 3 weeks old.
  • Ellie bends her neck and arches her back quite frequently--particularly when she is being changed or when she is waking up.
  • Ellie couldn't get rid of her gas through either burping or tooting. Mylicon is heaven sent.
  • Nights are either good or bad depending on the night. One night she's up every two hours and the next she'll sleep for 7 hours.
  • She is starting to hold her head up really well. I noticed it at 4.5 or 5 weeks.
  • Her eyes are a very pretty blue. We hope they stay that way, but aren't counting on it. They'll probably be brown like Mom and Dad's.
  • Ellie made the first sound close to cooing today. Very cute.
  • The first "real" smile was given a week or so ago as I put her in the car.
  • Ellie likes to scratch her face and her eyes, in particular.
  • She can use her legs to push herself up whatever surface she is on. She's been doing that for a while. She can also use those legs to pivot and get into a new position. She can't roll over, but she can change the wall she's looking at.
  • Ellie gets cuter with each passing day.

It's been a great six weeks and I love watching her grow.
