Gummy Smile

It's astonishing how quickly babies develop new things. On Friday I went to work while Eric watched Eliana. All day long he and Ellie played with each other and she mimicked him saying "rar, rar, rar". I am told it was very cute. She has since refused to continue the game, so I have never seen or heard her do it.

Today Eliana decided to have a new smile. I call it her gummy smile and you'll see why in the picture and on the video. I was afraid that she would stop doing it before her daddy got a chance to see it, so I broke out the camera to do my best to catch it and bring the magic home. It was amazing to me that she actually smiled on command. The picture, like many others, is fuzzy because she's such a wiggler. But you get the idea.
As it turns out, she must have been so anxious to show off those gums because she is officially teething. She has a little tooth bud breaking the surface on the bottom. One of the guys at work had to point it out to me. He was holding her and she wanted to suck on his (clean) finger. I usually only let her suck on my knuckle because my fingernails might pose a threat and I refuse to keep them shorter than the fingertips. Mean mommy. Anyway, she got a hold of his fingertip and he came back to ask me if I knew she had a tooth coming in. I couldn't feel it on my knuckle, but I certainly could when she chewed on my finger. Maybe her gummy smile was her way of saying, "Look, Mom! I have a tooth! Are you impressed?" Yes. Yes I am.
